Log selection
Planed log, laminated log or round log?
Our log selection includes planed logs, laminated logs, and round logs, available in pine or spruce according to the customer’s preference.
One of the most important decisions when designing a log house or a log sauna is choosing the right log type and size to suit the intended use. Simply put, smaller log dimensions are well suited for buildings such as outbuildings or summer-use cottages. For year-round use, we recommend larger log dimensions, which provide better thermal performance and heat retention. The appropriate log size also depends greatly on the climate. For example, in warmer regions less thermal insulation is required than in colder climates.
Another key consideration is the type of log. Laminated logs are made by gluing two or more layers together. Their main advantage is reduced settlement, which allows greater freedom in architectural design. Planed logs, also known as solid logs, are manufactured from a single piece of wood. They are a natural choice, but as the wood lives over time, planed logs will settle and develop natural cracks over the years. Round logs are also made from a single log, with the most obvious difference being their shape. Round logs create a warm and atmospheric appearance and are an excellent choice for buildings such as garden saunas or summer cottages.
The log types and dimensions we have used for years have proven reliable for both domestic and international construction projects and have even served as the foundation for an award-winning Log Building of the Year in Japan.
High-quality planed and laminated logs are produced from timber sourced both from our own sawmill and trusted external suppliers. Round logs are manufactured entirely in-house, from raw logs to finished products, using our factory’s own peeling and profiling line.
